In an essay or letter of 300 – 400 words, please reflect on the learning you did in our class this semester.

Overview

The reflection essay/letter invites you to reflect on who you have become as an academic writing as you revisit your work this semester.  Sandra Giles says,”In Reflective Writing and the Revision Process,” that reflecting on our writing helps us to apply the skills we learn in one class to another class: Students then become independent learners who can take what they learn about writing into the future beyond a particular class rather than remaining dependent on teachers or peer evaluators (198).  Thus, this final reflective essay/letter is your chance to observe your learning process and become this independent learner. It is your chance to examine what works for you and what doesn’t. It is your chance to think about who you are as an academic writer.

Your reflection can be similar to a letter in which you introduce readers to your work and your progress as a writer. Think of it as an argument on your progress as a writer, using your pre-semester reading response, revision plan for your pre-semester reading response, and research paper as evidence of your growth. Of course, you may, in addition to those three assignments, reflect on other work and learning you did in our class this semester as well.
