According to Niles and Harris-Bowlsbey (2022), worldview generalizations are generalizations about life and the world around us that have been learned from different experiences in the person life.  During the session with Dr. Krumboltz (2009), a few different world view generalizations were made by the client. The first was that we need immediate results as a counselor to think what we are doing is helping.  Dr. Krumboltz helps the client understand that instant gratification is not something achievable in the counseling field, and that she should continue to test the waters to find the comfortable fit.

Another big worldview generalization that the client makes is that you have to be a master at your field to be good at what you do.  Dr. Krumboltz (2009), makes sure to let the client know that no nobody is a master or perfect at anything.  He states that perfection is not possible.  The best way to show that you are good at something is that you are continually improving and learning.  His comparison between tennis players and perfection is great, by letting the client know that even the best tennis player in the world still makes mistakes in every match but are still the best at what they do.  I believe that this generalization is one that many have.  The last worldview generalization that I saw was about planning your whole life in advanced.  This is the basis for Dr. Krumboltzs theory.   The client was adamant about being able to plan the steps in her life from her dream job, to splitting her time in two areas, to her dream pay.  It is stated that the need to plan every detail is taught at home and school and that is why it is so important to so many people (Krumboltz, 2009).  The learning theory of career counseling states that the career is chosen through social learning (Niles & Harris-Bowlsbey, 2022).  Dr. Krumboltz informs the client that you do not have to plan everything to get ahead in your field. Advancing comes from improving and to continually learn.

We all make worldview generalizations about what we want in life.  What this theory has taught me is that planning for your future career make take additional steps, but you will not know those steps until you get there.
