For this assignment, you will analyze how the news media (through your chosen editorial) portrays social issues and how the editorial constructs an effective or ineffective argument. You will need to point out the rhetorical strategies being used in both the article and the image, to discuss why and how these techniques affect us as viewers and readers of these texts, and to form a conclusion about how these texts illustrate our values.
As you analyze both the article and the image, consider how these two “texts” work together to create an argument. You will need to analyze both texts carefully and thoroughly. You might think about:

- image style, color, and composition
- the arrangement of ideas
- the use of classic appeals (logos/pathos/ethos)
- the argument’s tone
- the types of evidence the author uses
- the image’s relationship to the main article.
