This is the discussion forum for those who did not attend the in-person section for this week. For this week, I would like you consider this week’s overarching concern with the Great Chain of Being and its influence on both Early Modern English society/politics and, specifically for this course, Richard II. Following this, I would like you to select a scene from Shakespeare’s play and examine how it troubles particular conceptions of the Great Chain of Being and its influence on society (for example, the issue of succession and what gives a monarch their authority to rule, as we discussed during section this past Tuesday).
