Write a letter to Yasmin with helpful advice. Think about the risks associated with her situation. What steps can she take to minimize these risks and increase resilience for her baby?
Be sure to address the following areas:
Maternal Nutrition: Why is maternal nutrition important? Highlight some essential nutrients and provide recommendations for healthy eating.
Exposure to teratogens: Is there a point in development where the baby is most vulnerable to the effects of teratogens. Why? What are some teratogens that need to be completely avoided? (think about alcohol and cigarette smoke) Discuss the effects of stress on pregnancy and suggest some strategies to minimize daily stress.
Health insurance and Childbirth choices: Do some research about services available for low-income mothers without proper health insurance. Provide information about different childbirth options and discuss how and socio-economic status can influence pregnancy and childbirth.
