To gain a full appreciation of a fashion era (andlife!) you need to walk a mile in someone else’s poulaines (imagine that!).This exercise can change perspectives, develop understanding, and discovercommonalities among humanity across the ages. It is also a wonderful venue touse your imagination!
Instructions
Imagine that you are a male, female, peasant, orroyalty living during the Middle Ages. Your character should be inspired by a paintingor image from the Middle Ages. Good sources are museums or libraries that havecollections from the Middle Ages or compilations of images on Google Images orGetty Images. You do not have to be the person in the historical image justinspired by the clothing of the image. Be sure to review the images in your text,so you do not stray into the Renaissance. Describe your day, in the form of ajournal entry written in the first person, from rising in the morning to goingabout, then ending, your day. Include details about your environment, all yourclothing (interior/exterior), hair, accessories, activities, interactions withinstitutions, family/others, etc. Specificity will enhance the quality of yourwork. Your musings should demonstratean understanding of the historical era and, particularly, the clothing, usingproper vocabulary. This assignment must be 500 words and must include the wordcount in parentheses. At the end of your assignment include the link for theinspirational image. If it is a painting including several people, specify theparticular person that is your inspiration. Please use Turbine as a reference source.
