For this assignment, I would like you to use the methods of analyzing poetry we have
discussed in class and apply them to a song of your choice. So, pick any song you want and
make an argument about a message you think the song is sending. Remember to argue about the
message and not just explain what the song means. You should also consider how the form,
rhythm, or rhyming of the poem contributes to your reading of it. You can also analyze the audio
aspects of the song like how the instruments or beat contribute to the message of the song or the
tone of voice that it is sung in. Basically, this is a mini literary analysis of any song you’re
interested in writing about.
Formatting and requirements:
Times New Roman 12 pt font
Double spaced
Name, date, class, and professor’s name in upper left corner
Include an original title
500 words or more
Make use of at least 3 direct quotes from the song
Include a link to the song on youtube/soundcloud/whatever if possible. Or at least post the lyrics
on a separate page
