QUESTION 1:
In your opinion, should violent and/or lethal attacks on law enforcement be considered an act of terrorism? Additionally, how do these types of assaults relate (or do not relate) to the definition of terrorism?
QUESTION 2:
As noted in our textbook (p. 47), Chetan Bhatt stated that he believes radicalization is associated with alienation. He argues that Western governments seek to integrate and assimilate immigrant populations. Bhatt also states that this poses a problem because many immigrants choose to maintain their native identity, including political and religious affiliations. Although he does not feel this issue represents a path towards political violence, he does feel this issue indicates a rejection of Western norms. Do you agree with this assumption? Why or why not?
QUESTION 3:
As noted in our textbook (pp. 61-65), the FBI’s Terrorist Financing Operations Section concluded that all terrorism cases involve some financial component, “like a subterranean universe…described as an octopus with tentacles spreading across vast territories.” With that in mind, please discuss the following points:
- The difference between “money dirtying” and “money laundering.”
- What role could the growth of cryptocurrency markets play in financing?
- How could public-private partnerships (such as loyalty reward programs) serve as a valuable tool in preventing or stopping the financing of terrorism?
