The purpose of this assignment is for students to identify different types of evidence based rating scales used in clinical practice to embed in a mental health assessment. EBP mood rating, or mania rating or anxiety rating scales assist the practitioner in accurately assessing the presence of a mood or anxiety disorder and the severity of it.
Directions: Follow the questions for students to answer, after reading the case study scenario, please answer at least 3 of the following questions and expand on potential responses (may elaborate on case study, make up more details to fit a most interesting case study presentation).
Cite at least 2 graduate level references, APA style. And upload one rating scale that you discussed in your post.
Case study: An advanced practitioner (AP) is assessing an 18 y/o Caucasian Female who presents for her annual exam. During the physical exam, the AP notices scratch marks on her bilateral wrists, and scars on her thighs that appear self-inflicted. When completing a review of systems, the patient answered “none” to any previous psychiatric diagnosis or mood disorder.
Critical Thinking Questions: How will the AP ask additional assessment questions? Will the patient benefit from a mood questionnaire? Or another rating scale? What are the next steps if a mood questionnaire, such as a PHQ-9 is positive? What are the initial steps? Are there other screening tools the healthcare provider will want to use? See Sadock, Chapter 5, psychiatric rating scales.
Answer at least 3 of these, cite 2 references and upload a rating scale:
1) What else do you want to know? How will you ask it? What screening tool will you want to use? (attach a copy of it).
2) What other physical signs or symptoms would you potentially expect? Or could there be substance use?
3) What interventions you would you order? What is your rationale? Please use referenced citation of your chosen intervention and APA.
4) Any cultural considerations? Any ethical dilemmas?
5) What evidence based rating scales would the practitioner want to use?
6) Should substance use disorders be assess for?
