Your thesis statement should state the author(s) of the short story(ies) that you are analyzing, in addition to the point you are making about the story(ies).



Here is an example of a complete thesis statement for this assignment:

JD Salinger’s short story “A Perfect Day for Bananafish” explores the universal and timeless theme of social alienation and its tragic consequences. While this story was written in the 1940s, social alienation is still widely experienced in all cultures, nearly a hundred years later.

Please make sure that your thesis statement meets the following criteria:

– It should state the author’s (or authors’) full name(s) and the title(s) of the short story/stories that you will be analyzing. (one or two stories, depending on which option you choose)

– Titles of short stories should be placed in quotation marks, and not italicized or underlined.

– Your thesis statement should assert your main point about the story or stories you are analyzing, per the essay prompt descriptions.

– What you are submitting should be either one or two sentences, at the most.
