Read the introduction to the book The Tyranny of Dead Ideas (Links to an external site.). (In the full length 8 week or 16 week class, we would read the whole book, but in this short term class, we will just read the introduction.) Then, write a 1 page double-spaced summary of it. This is a summary, not a persuasive essay, so you do not need a thesis. However, every summary should mention the title and author of the book at the beginning so readers know your subject. See a sample reading summary here. You can reflect on your opinions about the book and the author’s ideas, but make sure you first adequately summarize the author’s points.
