Week 2 Group Assessment Assignment

This assignment asks you to assess a group experience that you have had or are familiar with. Use your textbook readings to inform your response.

● Use a title page and reference page.

● Double-spaced, 2-3 pages in total length, not counting the title and reference

page.

● There should be at least one reference for your overall response.

● Cite all sources in APA style, in-text and in a reference list.

● Responses should be in your own words.

● Clearly identify each response with a heading or title above the response.

Assignment Instructions:

1. GROUP IDENTIFICATION: Identify a group that you have been or are currently a member (or a group that you have sufficient knowledge of to respond to the questions) This may be a school team, a social group, a group centered around certain interests, activities, or hobbies, a professional group, etc. Briefly describe the group’s purpose and activities. What type of group is this, based on the types of groups discussed in the course? Explain your response and use an APA style in-text citation for the type of group identified.

2. GROUP CHARACTERISTICS: Discuss each of the following aspects of the selected group. There is helpful information on these topics in Chapter Two of the textbook.

a) Group Composition. Describe the following three factors: how the group

started or came together; identify at least three features of the basic demographic of the group; Identify the approximate size of the group that you have experience or knowledge of. Discuss your thoughts on how these three factors influenced or could influence this type of group.

b) GroupEngagement.Describethefollowingthreefactors:theoveralllevelof engagement of members of the group; how often the group meets; how many members generally attend and participate. Include your comments on the impact of these factors on the group experience.

c) Group Identity/Cohesion. Describe the following factors: The level of the shared sense of identity or cohesion among members; how this was established or maintained in the group; how this influenced the group. Provide an example of group identity/cohesion of the group.

d) GROUPFEATURES:Discussandprovideanexampleofatleasttwoofthe following five features of the group: Group climate, Group interactions, Group norms, Group leadership, Group development. Use the description of these features in the textbook to inform your response. Cite any paraphrasing.

    

e) EVALUATION: Provide your overall evaluation of the group. Respond to the following: 1) Did you enjoy participating in the group (or do you think it would be enjoyable) and why? 2) Do you think that the group was effective and/or successful and why? 3) What suggestions do you have for the improvement of the group?
