Week 9: Discussion: Multiple Regression

Please answer the entire request for this assignment.  Use APA 7th ed format to reference you work both in-text and references.  **I will send the paper back, if it isn’t properly cited.

FROM the INSTRUCTOR:  Please remember to include key data points in your narrative. It is not enough to refer the reader to a table/figure/chart. Also, please make sure you describe what the data mean. For example, if you are sharing an effect size, you would share the numeric value and indicate what it means within the context of the data. We wouldn’t just say the effect size is large – indicate what that means.

To prepare for this Discussion:

  • Review this weeks Learning Resources and media program related to multiple regression.
  • Create a research question using the Afrobarometer Dataset or the HS Long Survey Dataset, that can be answered by multiple regression.

By Day 3

Use SPSS to answer the research question. Post your response to the following:

  1. If you are using the Afrobarometer Dataset, report the mean of Q1 (Age). If you are using the HS Long Survey Dataset, report the mean of X1SES.
  2. What is your research question?
  3. What is the null hypothesis for your question?
  4. What research design would align with this question?
  5. What dependent variable was used and how is it measured?
  6. What independent variables are used and how are they measured? What is the justification for including these predictor variables?
  7. If you found significance, what is the strength of the effect?
  8. Explain your results for a lay audience, explain what the answer to your research question.

By Day 5

Respond to at least one of your colleagues posts and comment on the following:

  1. Do you think the variables are appropriately used? Why or why not?
  2. Does the addition of the control variables make sense to you? Why or why not?
  3. Does the analysis answer the research question? Be sure and provide constructive and helpful comments for possible improvement.
  4. If there was a significant effect, comments on the strength and its meaningfulness.
  5. As a lay reader, were you able to understand the results and their implications? Why or why not?

Use proper APA format, citations, and referencing for your analysis, research question, and display of output.

Datasets

Your instructor will post the datasets for the course in the Doc Sharing section and in an Announcement. Your instructor may also recommend using a different dataset from the ones provided here. CHOOSE which one you would like to use:   Afrobarometer Dataset, report the mean of Q1 (Age). If you are using the HS Long Survey Dataset, report the mean of X1SES.

Required Media

Laureate Education (Producer). (2016g). Multiple regression [Video file]. Baltimore, MD: Author.

Note: The approximate length of this media piece is 7 minutes.

In this media program, Dr. Matt Jones demonstrates multiple regression using the SPSS software.
