To give you a sense of what I am looking for in this assignment, I have provided a sample post below. This post was submitted by a student in a previous semester.

This weeks lecture was very interesting in that it gave me a new view of the Reconstruction period after the Civil War. For one, the creation of new railroads really made a big impact on our own prosperity to this day as it created a whole new era of trade and transportation. Due to cheap land and lots of it, railroads were built as a way to escape the cities and to create a new life for many families. Another big part of this time was the fact that many families could also claim over 160 acres (with a small fee of course) under the homestead act of 1862 in order to “improve the land” (Acker 2020) . This allowed for the construction of farms, businesses, cities, and so much more that would lead to a truly prosperous West. I think its quite amazing that Americas reach into its own land grew so quickly due to the construction of railroads, and honestly it makes me wonder how much technology and improvements to different modes of transportation have allowed us to become so resourceful. So as the plains became a settlement to many there was still so many problems occurring to many others back in the Northern and Southern areas of America.

One of the many problems that I had not really been aware of was the constant exclusion of so many people from an already corrupt society. Poor people, immigrants, and so many more were just completely excluded from a higher society and it really shows that different Urban Political Machines really did not care of the well being of anyone under them. All they cared about was money, especially in their big growing companies. 12 hour work days, terrible conditions, and absolutely unfair pay really gave the common worker something to hate and led to numerous strikes or protests. This just shows that everyone wants an equal workload and something that is fair to and through the numerous strikes and outrage from the people, I truly think this was a period of conflict that would help our future selves and soon lead to the work culture we have now a days with the much more fair conditions as well as recognition to more equality in general amongst all people.

This time was beyond difficult and learning about it really opened my eyes to an unfair life for many and made me realize that many people have struggled to get where we are now, and it truly shows that there has been so much improvement between human beings over the years but it has also shown that there is always work to be done in order to improve the world we live in today.
