Prompt:

  • Based on what you have read so far, what social class would Atticus and Momma be a part of?

    • The first video will give you a list of five social classes used by socialists in the United States.
  • Choose a social class from the video, and then give evidence to support that Momma and Atticus truly belong to the social class you have chosen.  For example, what educational background do they have?  What social class would they be in?

  • You only need to choose one factor for each person.

Requirements:

  • Use at least one in-text citation from each of the novels to support your point.
  • Use at least one in-text citation from the YT video "The Impacts of Social Class: Crash Course Sociology #25 or "Social Class and Poverty in the United States #24." to support your point.
  • Use the time stamp on the video as the page number for your in-text citation, for example, (CrashCourse 3:52).  CrashCourse is the author in this case.
  • Use my MLA Cheat Sheet, Purdue Owl, or email me if you have any questions regarding MLA.
  • At the bottom of your initial thread, include your Works Cited. This is for practice so that when we start the essays, you will be very familiar with using MLA.
  • I will also be looking at grammar/mechanics very closely, so you may want to have someone edit your post before submitting it.
  • Be sure that your initial post contains a topic sentence, relevant support, and a closing sentence.

Possible Format:

  • Start with some background information, or just start with a topic sentence.
  • The topic sentence should mention both characters and should mention their social class.  Set the stage for your audience.
  • Then I would write and support Atticus, or whomever you stated first in your topic sentence.
  • Then I would write and support Momma or whomever you stated second in your topic sentence.
  • Then I would add a closing.
  • Do not forget to include a heading, title, MLA citations, and a Works Cited.

Deadlines:

  • Initial post by 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday. There is a -10 deduction for each day the initial posting is late.
  • Remember the initial post must be submitted to the Discussion Board and to Submit Initial Post for Grading.
  • The responses, however, are only submitted to the discussion board. They are not submitted for grading.
  • Respond to two other posts by 11:59 p.m. Friday.
  • Respond to at least two people who responded to your posts by 11:59 on Sunday. If two people did not reply to your initial post, then respond to another person because you need at least five postings.
  • Reminder- You need a total of five postings.

Reminder:

  • You will not see other students’ posts until after you have submitted your initial post.
  • I do not want students to read other students’ posts before they create and complete their initial posts because they can read what other students have posted and NOT do the reading themselves.
  • This is cheating.
  • Again, you will not see any student posts until after you submit your first/initial post.
