For our Topic Proposal please remember that we must pick a topic that is related to our future career or our present college major. If you do not know your future plans or have not declared a major, please pick an area of interest in the workforce that aligns with your interest. (for instance, if you like to work on cars, you could pick a controversial topic around being a mechanic, or ethics of selling automobiles, or why the world should/should not adopt all-electric cars etc.)

So, what do I mean when I say controversial:

  • There are clear sides an opinions that conflict against each other.
  • There are valid points on each side
  • It is not a simple right or wrong issue (i.e. is murder a moral wrong, or why there should be more kindness in the world)
  • You must pick a side of the argument and clearly and logically defend it. You cannot sit on the fence, or stay in the gray area for this topic.
  • Look at the banned topic list and avoid those topics though.

I hope this helps, but let me know if you need help selecting a topic as I would be happy to brainstorm with you.

A word of caution. Make sure that you are interested in your topic and find it engaging, as we will be working with whatever topic you propose, the entire semester.
