Chipotle has a total of 1704 owners/stakeholders that have filed their forms to the SEC. The largest organization stakeholders include Vanguard Group Inc, Price T Rowe Associates Inc /md/, BlackRock Inc, Edgewood Management LLc, Susquehanna International Group, Llp, Pershing Square Capital Management, L.P., State Street Corp, Susquehanna International Group, Llp, Capital International Investors, and Citadel Advisors Llc. In terms of largest individual stakeholders for Chipotle, the four largest are Steve Ells, Montgomery Moran, Albert Baldocchi, and John Hartung. Then the last group of stakeholders at chipotle are going to be the employees who work for them. Organizations who are stakeholders in Chipotle may vary in their interests and claims, but they all want to have a share in Chipotle because it is a well-known established fast-food chain and other organizations can gain from the profits that are made in the community from Chipotle. Furthermore, the relationships that organizations can build being a stakeholder with Chipotle is very beneficial as well. Three of the main four individuals who are stakeholders of Chipotle, Steve Ells, Montgomery Moran, and John Hartung have been at the top of management with Chipotle. They may have slightly different personal interests, but one interest they probably shared that has enabled Chipotle to be successful is that of a healthy lifestyle to go along with a sustainable environment which Steve Ells promoted. Lastly, the employees personal interests certainly will differ, but if they are hardworking and dedicated employees who are loyal, they will share a common interest of doing what is best for Chipotle.

Chipotle has many opportunities through the use of their stakeholders. Through their investors, Chipotle will be able to receive guidance on how to best spend their money. For example, expansion will allow Chipotle to gain new customers in new parts of the world. And this will in turn generate more profits. Another stakeholder that provides opportunities is the customer.

By watching what the customers buy and avoid Chipotle is able to better tailor their menu to fit their needs. Through the suppliers, Chipotle will be able to continue expanding into the natural and local grown food sources. This will boost their brand credibility and will likely attract more customers. Lastly, employee input will help make the system more effective and efficient.

However, Chipotle also has threats that come with the stakeholders. Chipotle must make sure that they keep a good reputation for their brand. Otherwise, they have the risk of losing their stakeholders. If they do not continue to use safe practices or have poor employment environments, many stakeholders will lose faith in the company and back out. This threat of losing their supporters and workers due to mismanagement is one of Chipotles biggest threats.

As a company, Chipotle should try to appeal to as many stockholder values as possible. Economically, it is the main goal of a company to maximize their profits in order to increase shareholder value. In order to make sure that all of the external shareholders are making profits and are aware of the profits that the company is making as well. However, it is vitally important to think about the internal shareholders when thinking about economic responsibility. Employees need to be a top priority for any business who is thinking about their economic responsibility. Fair wages, time off, and benefits must fit the needs of the employees. Lastly, when thinking economically Chipotle must be aware of their prices for their customers. Chipotle in the US keeps their prices low and affordable. They also give fair serving sizes, which keeps customers satisfied. This business mindset will be important for Chipotle to thrive in an expansion into a new country.

Chipotle also has legal responsibilities to their stakeholders. Recently Chipotle has had only two major legal issues in the news. The first is a legal issue that was settled in 2020 when the company received numerous cases of foodborne illness from their restaurant. Chipotle agreed to

pay the FDA a 25 million dollar fine as well as institute stronger food safety measures in their restaurants (FDA). By having these measures put in place Chipotle is ensuring that situations such as this will not happen again. Although this situation hurt stakeholders’ trust in the company, the actions showed that Chipotle is aware of the legal responsibility that they have to their shareholders. Chipotle also had legal issues throughout 2021 in regard to poor scheduling processes and the overscheduling of employees from 2017-2019 (New York Times). It is important for Chipotle to address and fix these issues in their company. If they are able to change these processes, they will demonstrate to their employees that they are valued.

Lastly Chipotle also has philanthropic responsibilities to their stakeholders. One of Chipotles most common forms of philanthropy is through their Chipotle fundraisers. Chipotle offers a program where organizations, teams, or clubs can partner with their local Chipotle and for a day a portion of Chipotles sales will be donated to the group. This simple idea shows gives Chipotle the opportunity to give back to their customers in a unique way and demonstrates their philanthropic responsibility.

There are many different aspects that have affected Chipotles stakeholders such as food posioning, pandemic, and employee complaints. The biggest issue has been food posioning. Chipotle has had the most major cases of food posioning. Chipotles restaurants are understaffed and its staff is overworked, which leads to frequent violations of food safety codes. According to Eat This, Not That, Chipotle workers allege that cross-contamination is frequent, and that food is not always kept at mandated temperatures. Also, the staff  at their location only obsereves hand washing requirements during a health inspection. Chipotle has been accused of forcing employees to work even when theyre sick because of how short staffed they are from the pandemic, which is also a violation of company policy.
