Most NFL players, and some coaches and owners, reacted against Trump’s words by linking arms as the national anthem was played before games on Sept. 24 and 25, and the Pittsburgh Steelers, Seattle Seahawks and Tennessee Titans remained largely off-field for the anthem.
Addressing the situation
Trump tweeted, “If NFL fans refuse to go to games until players stop disrespecting our Flag & Country, you will see change take place. Fire or suspend!”
NFL Commissioner Goodell wrote that the league could “meet this challenge in a unified and positive way.”
A rule change that would require players to stand for the national anthem.
