Annotated Bibliography: Your Annotated Bibliography is an important research assignment that has several purposes: 1) to help you organize and evaluate your research, 2) to account for your reading of that research, 3) to help you clarify and develop the focus and arguments of your research project. Annotated bibliographies are commonly assigned in research-oriented college courses, though there is no one-size-fits all content format. You can look up examples of bibliographical annotations in various writing sites, but none of these is required–just be consistent in your formatting. In this class, do the following:

1) Incorporate a minimum of six sources into a document structured and organized like an MLA-style Works Cited page (visit the Purdue Owl Writing Lab for help with this and other formatting requirements: ( https://owl.purdue.edu/index.html). (Links to an external site.)  (APA OK if you plan to write an APA-style final research paper.) This group of sources should include a minimum of three peer-reviewed sources. (Do not cite Wikipedia).

2) Underneath each reference in this document, include a paragraph focused on that source in which you:

a) Summarize the source. This summary should be substantive and as complete as possible in the space of approx. 4- 8 sentences.

b) Identify the thesis of the source if it is making an argument (generally, you should be seeking a significant number of sources that make and defend claims). Quote the thesis if you can locate a thesis sentence, construct one based on your own assessment of the argument, if not. If a particular source is not making an argument, instead identify the purpose of the source. Why does it exist?

c) Assess the value of the source. Is it a good, reliable source? Why or why not? Does it make an interesting claim and show sufficient support for the claim? Does the publication information suggest a reliable source? Can signature questions be applied usefully to the source? (approx 2-3 sentences).

d) Discuss how you plan to use the source at this point. How does it contribute to your research (for example, does it address any of your research questions or suggest new ones)?  (approx 2-3 sentences).
