In addition it also assesses the IUPUI PLUS (Principles of Undergraduate Learning and Student Experiences) as a Problem Solver -The IUPUI Student works individually and with others to collect, analyze, evaluate, and synthesize information to implement innovative solutions to challenging local and global problems. It also assesses general education statewide competencies for social science 5.2, 5.4, and 5.6.

At the beginning of the semester, find at least one sustainable practice that you can start and practice throughout the semester. Use your sustainable knowledge to select your topic and to apply a solution in your personal life. Some of the issues that you can look at are reducing your energy, conserving water, recycling, eliminating waste, reducing your carbon footprint, change your food consumption, etc.
- Use your sustainability knowledge to find a sustainable solution for a problem in your personal life.
- Define the problem. You will need to do some research on the problem and possible solutions.
- Identify Strategies -Identify multiple approaches for solving the problem.
- Proposes one or more solutions that indicates a deep comprehension of the problem. Solution/hypotheses are sensitive to contextual factors as well as all of the following: ethical, logical, and cultural dimensions of the problem.
- Evaluate the solution. Evaluation of solutions is deep and elegant (for example, contains thorough and insightful explanation) and includes, deeply and thoroughly, all of the following: considers history of problem, reviews logic/reasoning, examines feasibility of solution, and weighs impacts of solution. (Use information from chapter 17 and others in your text as a guide).
- Implement the solution in a manner that addresses thoroughly and deeply multiple contextual factors of the problem.
- Reflect -Evaluate Outcomes. Reviews results relative to the problem defined with thorough, specific considerations of need for further work.
