Style Format
MLA (Modern Language Association) is a formatting style of writing used in the academic environment up through the undergraduate (Bachelor’s degree) level.
Some of the characteristics are as follows:
- In MLA-style writing, there are several rules that remain consistent from document to document.
- Text, for example, must be in 12-point size, double-spaced and in Times New Roman font.
- Margins must be formatted to the standard 1 inch on every side when printed on 8.5- by 11-inch white paper.
- MLA headers require the student’s last name first, followed by one space then the page number.
- The header should be located on the top-right corner of the page, about 1/2 inch from the top of the paper.
- The header differs from the heading, which is the first paragraph on the page.
- The heading includes the student’s name, the instructor’s name, the name of the course and the date.
