PART I. IDENTIFICATIONS (30 points)

PART II. ARGUMENTATIVE ESSAY (70 points)
Please answer ONE of the following questions. Make sure to clearly specify which question you are responding. You must answer the question in the form of an argumentative essay in which you foreground and defend your own thesis statement. In answering the question, you must make reference to arguments in specific course readings, films and class discussions. Be sure to cite specific examples to illustrate and explain your claims and to explicitly explain to the reader how the claims you make and the examples you cite support your thesis. Also, remember that a good argumentative essay acknowledges and responds to the best counter-thesis available.

Given our course readings, discussions and films, what specific factors do YOU think explain why some protest movements are more successful at accomplishing their goals than other movements?
Please present your argument in the form of a narrowly and precisely worded thesis statement. In your essay, be sure to make reference to specific evidence provided in the chapters by Theoharis, the article by Gamson OR the article by Kaufman, and at least two other course readings.

Drawing on the knowledge you have developed through our course readings, discussions, and films, write an argumentative essay in which you highlight two specific reforms that you think would make our political system more democratic. Be sure to describe the problem each reform would address and how it would address the problem in a way that would in your estimation make the system more democratic.
In your essay, be sure to make reference to the argument and evidence provided in the chapters by Theoharis, the article by Gamson OR by the article by Kaufman, and at least two other course readings.
