1. Watch and listen to the mandatory Panopto lecture (to the left here is seen from a computer)
  2. Read the pages and links in the module, in particular Radial Balance…specific resources for the Mandala Self-Portrait , Radial Balance only and Principles of Design – Repetition ( Here are two links: https://study.com/academy/lesson/radial-design-definition-examples.html and https://www.slideshare.net/nwalkup/radial-symmetry)
  3. Make a list of everything that interests you, topics could include sports, hobbies, politics, religion, games, books, movies, food, activities that you like, etc, and of characteristics about yourself (adjectives that describe you, your own, or your family and friends’). You will share this list in your post.
  4. From this list, begin to make small illustrations to represent these different interest that you have (think about how sports teams have logos that represent themselves or how fashion logos represent the many different brands, make simple “logos” for each of your interests)
  5. On your drawing paper you will then make at least a 16×16″ design, as a starting point you can start with a square or circle (you will likely erase that as you work on your design) You can also trace around a large plate or other circular object, for a circle inside of that space, and I suggest you divide your space into several different segments, sections, and or smaller circles. Ultimately you don’t have to stick to a “line” circle or definitely not a square (it can be formed by shapes for instance) and you are encouraged to extend, radially, outside the circle.
  6. Begin to organize and place your logos into the various sections so that they create an interesting composition. You will use a RADIAL balance. Basically you will repeat designs along the two diagonals and top/bottom/right/left of the center.
  7. There should be a main point of focus.
  8. Make sure that the images and patterns create a strong flow in a regular format (which will include repetition: top bottom, right and left and on diagonals).
  9. Eliminate clutter, and make sure that your work is precise and free from smudges or sloppy craftsmanship.
  10. After working with a pencil, complete the design but using a variety BLACK (black only for this project!) ink pens such as the Micron brand (sharpie is ok too, carefully because, depending on the type, the bleed a bit) – Make sure to erase all pencil marks!
  11. Take pictures of your work in progress as you will be including them in your submission
  12. Carefully photograph your image: make sure you follow these tips.
  13. Embed the final image in your discussion board and write about your process and your ideas (the list, or part of it, and your inspiration).
  14. You are also required to attach a series of intermediate steps (minimum 3) to illustrate your work progress: you can take pictures with your phone, as long as they are clear, they don’t have to be scanned. One of your intermediate sketches’ photos needs to have a ruler or something that will show the suggested paper size Only the intermediate steps can be casually photographed, your project needs to be photographed well
