Part 1: Translating the Elements and Design Principles
Instructions: Identify and analyze the use of elementsand principles on an album cover of your choosing. If some album art doesnot come to mind, do a search for album cover art and choose one that peaksyour interest. It may be more fun if it is a musician you like, becauseyou can make connections between the sound of the music and the visualdesign. Cut and paste a picture in the discussion with an analysis of theuse of as many elements and principles as are relevant to your image. Notall of these are part of every design, so it is up to you to determine whichones are present and are dominant in your chosen album cover.
Part 2: Abstraction from life assignment
Instructions: take a photograph of some reflection thatyou think is strong compositionally, i.e. contains unity and variety of shapes,values, colors, etc. It should be abstract, so it’s better if it is notentirely clear what we are looking at, so it becomes more about design.
Please make the reflection fill the page. This means that you willhave to zoom in a little and probably crop the photo with the photo editor onyour phone. Adjust the contrast (value) of the image if the values aretoo close together and you cannot see the image well enough. The purposeof this assignment is to create a strong abstract composition and to look moreclosely at your environment.
Write a short paragraph explaining the process of creating the image andwhat you think is communicated by the results.
