Rogerian argument——- Annotated Bibliography

For this activity, you will likely need to gather new research sources for the Rogerian Argument Essay and modify the annotated bibliography you created for Unit 1. Some of your sources from essay 1 may also be useful.  You can use sources from online that support one side or the other, and you will also want to use the OCCC library database and choose reliable, academic sources.  Be sure to defend your sources’ credibility and purpose as you rewrite assignment.

For the Rogerian Argument essay, and this bibliography assignment, use the same topic you used for your Classical Argument essay; however, expand the focus of your research in two ways:

  1. to educate yourself about support for both perspectives on the issue
  2. to discover and communicate the impact of this issue.

You may continue to use any sources from your existing Annotated Bibliography that are still useful to you; however, you must end up with a minimum of four scholarly sources that you will use in this essay with an equal amount supporting each side (2 for each minimum)

Instructions:

  1. The topic used for your Classical Argument essay is the same topic you will use for the Rogerian Argument essay. Once you are familiar with the goal of a Rogerian Argument and the Rogerian Argument outline, you will need to do additional research to prepare to write this essay, starting with modifying your annotated bibliography.
  2. Re-examine your existing annotated bibliography and decide where you need to do more research to fill in the gaps of your knowledge of the issue on the state/national level, and to have a balance of evidence for supporting both sides of the issue as well as your proposed compromise.
  3. Use the OCCC library databases to gather as many additional sources as you will need, keeping in mind that this essay requires a minimum of 4 sources and that you can continue to use any of your existing sources that remain useful for this essay. Within the library’s website, the “Gale: Opposing Viewpoints” database is a good place to start for Rogerian argument research materials. Note that its purpose is to provide multiple viewpoints on each topic, which is the goal of your research. If you find sources online, defend them with the evaluation you include with your summary.
  4. Add any new sources to the bibliography, completing the citations and rewriting annotations in the same way you did when you first compiled your bibliography in Unit 1.
  5. Following each source, write a summary in paragraph form as shown below:
  •  A one sentence summary of the authors thesis.
  •  Three to four sentences that summarize the main claims and/or key pieces of information included within the article. Connect HOW this information will be used in your essay.
  • A one to two sentence personal evaluation of each source’s credibility.  For example: the expertise of the author, what makes the article credible on an academic level, the supporting institution or publication, or whether the claims are well supported or the reasoning shows a bias.
