5. How do you handle the concerns of parents of current students and incoming students in subsequent years regarding their children’s safety from measles?

6. Explain when and how you interact with the local media to get the proper messages out during the course of your investigation. What potential responses from the general public, parents, and students might result and how would those responses be handled (e.g. panic)?

HINT: This assignment addresses an outbreak that actually occurred at the University of Toledo (2008 or 2009, I believe). You have to investigate and find the answers quickly as students, parents, and media press you for answers. It is a genuine investigation that involves a foundational principle of public health, ensuring the safety of everyone – even if it infringes slightly on others’ rights. They have to do what is best for the health and well-being of a population. It also speaks to the issues of non-vaccination.
