Read the Beyond the West: Buddhism section in “Chapter 4: Revelation: The Flowering of World Religions” (120-122). Then, watch the documentary entitled The Buddha. Finally, respond to the following questions:

1) Describe the story of the Buddha in detail in 4-6 sentences.

2) Describe at least three (3) concepts in Buddhism in detail from the book or the documentary. What aspects of the human experience do you think are reflected by these concepts? Which human needs do you think Buddhism seeks to address? Be specific.

3) How did the Buddha come to be enlightened? What does enlightenment mean in Buddhism and who can become enlightened? What does it mean to be enlightened from your perspective?

3) Review the Making Connections section on the teachings of Jesus and Buddha on humility. What are the similarities and differences between these two teachings? Did you resonate with either of these teachings? What are your personal reflections on the appropriate way to react when someone harms you?
