Paper instructions:
From instructions: Your paper should consist of a title page, 10 pages of neat text, and endnotes or bibliography. The body of your paper should be very well organized, with a title, an identifiable introduction, subheadings (e.g., literature review, method, results), and conclusion. The introduction should make your thesis and planned structure clear. The conclusion should have a concise summary of your results and discuss the theoretical and practical implications of your findings. For theoretical paper, you should logically synthesize the literature (i.e., 15 references that you list in the proposal) in terms of theories, methods, and findings. For example, you are interestedin the relationship between social media use and political participation. You will find competing theories and findings in the literature. While some scholars find that social media use encourages people’s political participation, others argue that it inhibits political participation. In this case, you need to synthesize these competing theories and critically evaluate the methods used in the previous literature. Then, you can figure out the reasons why there are conflicting findings in the literature. Maybe the former camp mostly uses college students as a sample, but the latter camp focuses on the general public. Finally, you can point out the future directions of this line ofresearch based on your analyses of the literature.

The following was my proposal:
For this project I am going to look at the censorship of news and information on the
social media. I would like to focus on the effects of this censorship. Although in America, unlike China, there are no laws censoring information, there are certain practices in place that allow for public and private companies to censor the information people are seeing. On Facebook an algorithm is used to determine the information that a person sees based on previous searches, liked pages, friends, and comments made by the person. Google will show results of a search based on other users and the persons search history.
Hypothesis 1: Content is censored by companies to increase use, popularity, and profits.
Hypothesis 2: This censorship alters the opinions of the user.
Hypothesis 3: Crucial events and news can and are hidden from the general public using puff pieces to prevents citizens researching more on important topics.
This research project is going to use other academic articles and studies to prove or disprove the above hypothesis. Although I have not fully dissected them the following articles are the current articles I am studying for more information.

While determining the affects of a possible censorship of new in social media I will also need to determine how the media platforms function. I would also like to look at other countries such as China and see how the legal censorships of information alter the opinion and day to day lives of the country. There is a chance that American choose to allow the censorship due to a lack of motivation to be politically involved
