Choose a topic from either option A OR option B.
Option A: Article V of the U.S. Constitution outlines the amendment process; a process that has been used 27 times to date. For this paper I would first like for you to select one amendment from amendments 11-27. Next, I would like for you to do some research on the circumstances and reasons why the amendment was added to the Constitution. For instance, what societal need was fulfilled by adding the amendment? Was the amendment controversial or difficult to add? If so, why was there controversy? How was it overcome? Finally, I would like you to assess the overall impact of the amendment.
(As a note, if you select a civil rights amendment (13th, 14th, 15th, 19th, and 26th) do not spend too much time addressing the awfulness of society before the amendment; a sentence or two will be fine. Focus instead on the political elements of the amendment’s passage).
Option B:
The United States was the first the country to adopt federalism as its governing structure. For this paper, identify and discuss at least three reasons that the Founders decided to adopt federalism as the governing system of the United States. What was so appealing about the system? What did it have that other systems—like a unitary or confederacy— did not?
*The paper should be written in Times New Roman or Calibri size-12 font, double-spaced with one inch margins.
*All aspects of the paper should adhere to MLA format
** You must cite your sources! This is a college course and all papers require some type of source to validate the argument(s) being made. At the very least, you should cite the course textbook or PowerPoints. If there is no works cited page your paper will receive an automatic 1 (F). Additionally, if you have a works cited page, but no internal citations then your paper will receive an automatic 60 (D).
*A well-written paper requires a thesis or an argument. You should state your thesis in the beginning or introduction of your paper. The thesis should clearly outline your argument.
*The introduction should tell the reader exactly what you are going to say in your paper. The introduction should also be interesting so as to entice the reader.
*The body of the paper should provide evidence that convinces the reader of your central claims. Citations from books and articles, and other valid sources can help to strengthen your argument.
*The conclusion of your paper should summarize your major arguments and consider any implications of your thesis. It should also cohesively tie everything together.
