Body • Your task in the body of the assignment is two-part… 1) Provide a brief overview to Hofstede’s research, describe the chosen cultural dimension and give plenty of examples 2) Apply your understanding of the chosen cultural dimension to the learning context…ask yourself “How might this cultural dimension influence learner behaviour? Expectations in the classroom? Attitudes toward learning?’ etc. • Remember to use examples to illustrate your point! • Remember to read widely and incorporate your research into your discussion. Do not just list your references at the end of your essay but discuss the findings of your reading, i.e. what others have to say on this issue, in the body of your essay. • Remember to be critical…ask questions, make comparisons, identify gaps in the literature/theory etc. • Remember to position your discussion within a theoretical framework, i.e., do not discuss the topic in isolation but in the context of theories of language, culture, and learning. 4.
