In the Middle Ages, many monks and nuns creating art did NOT put their names on their masterpieces.  Today, since we don’t know who created these sacred works of art, we label them "Anonymous."

 Prompt

In the discussion below, answer the following:

  1. Given what we’ve studied about the Middle Ages, why do you think many religious artists were  willing to be anonymous?
  2. Think hard about this.  Can you give an example of an artist (any type of art) in today’s society that is anonymous?  If so, what do you think is his/her reason for remaining nameless?   If not, why do you think we don’t have anonymous artists?
