Course Reflections Assignment (after your Discussion Leader week)

This is an alert that you will be asked to reflect on your experience as a Discussion Leader in the final week of the course.  The details of how things went for you and what you learned and experienced will likely fade over time.  For this reason, please review the Course Reflections Blog assignment (from Week 15) below, and jot down some notes for how you will respond to the questions pertaining to the Discussion Leader assignment (step 1 and questions a-d below).  Save these notes in a safe place for when you will complete and submit the Course Reflections Blog in Week 15.  Remember, you can’t submit the reflections before Week 15. 

Course Reflections Blog prompt:

The Course Reflections Blog can be submitted in text, or using audio or video. Text or audio blogs should be illustrated with an appropriate image or other  multimedia that is licensed for your use and properly credited. 

To prepare to write the Course Reflections Blog, you should take the following steps:

1. Review the NACE Flyer in the Discussion Leaders folder, which describes the NACE Competency for Leadership.   Review your week as a discussion leader— look at the description of your specific leadership role (Initiator, Interlocutor, or Weaver) in the Discussion Leaders folder.  Review the discussion board for that week (note: the sign-up sheet is in the Discussion Leaders folder for reference).  Consider in what ways your work fulfilled the NACE Career Readiness Competency for Leadership: “Recognize and capitalize on personal and team strengths to achieve organizational goals.”  
2. Review the Discipline-Specific Learning Outcomes listed on the Syllabus, and choose one that you want to explore in your Course Reflection, and copy it into your post.  Consider how you have achieved this learning outcome.

In the Course Reflections Blog, you should carefully address the following questions, with specific reference to your work in the course:

1. How have your knowledge and skills evolved in your work for COM 110 in relation to (a) the NACE Leadership Competency and (b) your chosen Discipline-Specific Learning Outcome?
2. Did you fully achieve the goals stated, and if so, what form did this take for you?  Give examples of how you demonstrated the leadership competency and the chosen learning outcome.  Talk about what goals, if any, you did not manage to meet.
3. What comes next for you in further achieving the leadership competency and your chosen learning outcome? What will take this knowledge/these skills to the next level? How can you grow or improve further in this area/these areas? 
4. How can you see yourself applying the leadership knowledge and skills and the knowledge and skills related to your chosen learning outcome outside of college (in the workplace, volunteer work, etc.)?

The purpose of the Course Reflections Blog assignment is to give you a chance to consider where you are now, compared with where you were at the start of the semester, in reference to one of the specific learning outcomes for the course and the NACE Competency for Leadership.  Your grade will be based on how well you reflect on your experience in these areas, not on how well you met the stated goals.
