Become an Art Historian
Choose one of the four listed civilizations of Pre-Columbian Mesoamerica:
La Mexica of central Mexico: the Aztecs
Tropical lowlands of the east coast: the Olmecs
Tropical highlands of Oaxaca: the Mixtecs
Chiapas, Yucatn and Guatemala: the Mayas
Research your chosen civilization to find out when and where they lived and what their culture was like. Find an artistic pre-Columbian artifact such as a mural, sculpture, tool, piece of equipment, architectural feature or place, tablet of writing not already listed in your required textbook that represents part of the culture you have chosen.
Copy and Paste your image and include the title, time period, size, medium and current location within the text (if you would like to place your image within your submitted document, that would also be an acceptable presentation).
Then summarize your artifact in a short paragraph (five or more sentences). Become an art historian, write what is known about this artifact, and then write down what you think it is telling us. Be sure to talk about which civilization this artifact is from.
Please note: make sure the artifact is from a reputable source, i.e. a University Institution or Museum Collection etc.
