Background: Throughout this course we have been using a critical perspective to examine issues related to sports culture. This entails an examination of how power and dominant ideologies shape culture and various social worlds/subcultures in sports. Critical analysis involves a consideration of power relations and the interests that are and are not represented in dominant images, narratives, and discourses. Applying concepts, theories, and discourses from sociology of sport research to social phenomena allows us critically assess the status quo and offer suggestions on how to change it.
