3. Water is an important concept of life. What are the properties of water that make it unique to other elements? Discuss (3) ways that water can participate in life (you may want to think both molecular and macro level (i.e. bonding, polarization, pH, dealing with temperature, etc…).
4. Brown eyes are dominant (BB) whereas blue eyes are recessive (bb). Examine, describe, and discuss how this phenotype will change over time in our current world. Using evidence from your Punnett squares, argue whether one could become extinct or not?
5. Describe the 4 types of speciation. Create your own organism and give an example scenario for each speciation event.
6. Describe and discuss how climate and weather affects the stability of biodiversity and ecosystems. In our recent weather, we have experienced relatively higher amounts of wind than in previous years. Make a hypothesis on how this will affect our regional ecosystem. Make sure you argue for your hypothesis using concepts you learned in this course.
7. What is meant by the comment “carbon footprint”? Describe the carbon cycle. Discuss how locally produced carbon dioxide affects world climate. Do you think that we will (or have) reach(ed) critical levels and can we recover? Discuss.
8. Compare and contrast circulatory systems of a Drosophila melanogaster, Carcharodon carcharias, and Ornithorhynchus anatinus. Be sure to describe each type of circulatory system, how they are unique and how they are similar.
9. Some people argue that reptiles (i.e. Snakes, crocs, etc.) make great pets. From what you have learned about the nervous systems, scientifically discuss whether their argument is true or not true. Be sure to discuss brain structure and function. You may want to compare nervous systems of more common pets (i.e. dogs, cats, etc.).
