Writing Assignment Instructions
Your assignment is to summarize an article from the list below, using *APA format. You will be directed to an Internet address for an article from a health professional journal. Only the articles provided to you will be used. —no other articles will be accepted. To read these articles, you must sign up for MEDSCAPE.
A. Use of Medscape is FREE, requiring a simple one-time member registration. (http://www.medscape.com). This is an excellent source for medical articles for professionals and students, so bookmark this site to your computer for future reference!
B. Once you are on the Medscape website, you can either select one of the articles on the home page (“TOP NEWS” in the middle of the home page) or pick a SPECIALTY from the list on the left hand side of the page and pick an article that is focused on a specialty you are interested in. You must pick an article dated after May 1, 2015. Make SURE you use APA formatting to cite the article you choose to write on.
C. You will take notes as you read this article, especially important points brought up by the author regarding the medical condition, treatment, medications used, etiology,etc.
D. Your written assignment should contain all of the following:
1. Title Page;
2. Summary, 3 pages, 1 inch side margins, double-spaced; Arial font, size 12 regular. Do not use bold print;
3. Reference Page
F. Remember to use APA format in your paper. A great website to help with this is: http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/01/
APA formatting is MORE than just citing your sources on a reference page – get help from the library or writing center if you are not familiar with APA.
