A Summary Response is  designed to help you read, annotate, write about, and discuss readings in college.   A summary outlines the what of a text. A response is your opinion of what you have read. 

Topic

Take one of the articles you are using for your research essay, and write a brief (300 word)  summary response of your article.  Be sure to comment on at least one of your peers summary responses (200 words). 

 

Paragraph 1 Introduction (5-6 sentences)

  • Introduce your subject by using the author, article, and source (who, what, where).

  • Give a short synopsis of the article 

  • Write a clear thesis for your essay and place it at the end of the introduction. Your thesis will be a summary of the thesis of the  artifact you have chosen to write about.  (For example:  In Sorensons article, he implies )

Paragraph 2 – Summary (8-10 sentences)

  • Summarize the article

  • What are the main points

  • Use examples

  • Must include at least two  properly cited 3-5 word quotes 

 Paragraph 3 Response (8-10 sentences)

  • In this paragraph you may use first person.

  • What are your thoughts about the article?

  • Did it change your opinion on something or change the way you look at something?

 

Works Cited

  • Must contain properly formatted works cited.

    (My Research Argument essay was about the pandemic)
