Assignment: After reading Chapter 4 in your textbook, please address the following for the Discussion Post #1 assignment:
Dream Assignment
Please describe a dream you have had at anytime in your life. Be sure to provide much detail regarding the people, objects, and events of the entire dream (i.e., two or three sentence descriptions of your dream will not earn credit for this assignment).
In addition, provide an interpretation of the meaning of the dream based on 1 of the 5 theories mentioned in chapter 4 of your textbook (i.e., Freudian theory, continuity hypothesis, memory theory, threat simulation theory, or activation-synthesis theory). Describe why the dream theory you chose is most relevant to your dream as well. Stating “I do not know” or similar statements will result in a failing grade for this assignment. When analyzing the meaning of your dream, I would suggest you begin by looking for the relevance of the dream to events in your life (beginning with recent events, but if this does not work then examine any relevance to remote life events).
When describing your dream to the class, please do not present anything that may make you feel “ill at ease”; only state information regarding your dream which you are comfortable with. Again, students must interpret their dreams according to 1 of the 5 theories presented in chapter 4 of the textbook.
Instructions for this Discussion Post assignment:
- Students must first submit an Original post, which addresses all questions described above. Original posts must include a minimum of 18 sentences, with a minimum of 4 words per sentence. There is no maximum number of sentences per Original post. Quotations are allowed in Original posts, but none of the quoted sentences will count toward the minimum 18 sentence requirement (in such a case, students must write more than 15 sentences to account for all quoted sentences in their Original post). When ready to submit your Original post, please click the REPLY button below. Next, a pop-up window will appear allowing you to type, or copy and paste, your Original post. Only after posting your Original post will you be able to see other student’s Original posts, in order to provide your Response post. .
- Students must also submit a Response post to another students Original post of their choosing. The Response post must consist of a minimum of 18 sentences, with a minimum of 4 words per sentence. There is no maximum number of sentences per Response post. Students MAY include quotes from the other students Original post, or any other source, but none of the quoted sentences will count toward the minimum 18 sentence requirement (in such a case, students must write more than 17 sentences to account for all quoted sentences in their Response post). Students cannot submit a Response post until they first submit their own Original post.
- Each sentence in each Original and Response post must be numbered. For example,
- (1) The rain in Spain stays mainly on the plain. (2) Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind. (3) You’ve got to take the good with the bad, smile with the sad, love what you’ve got, and remember what you had.
- Students may edit an Original or Response post after submission, up until the assignment deadline stated in this syllabus. There will be no makeup or late Discussion Post assignments accepted under any circumstances.
- Discussion Post assignments are graded on a “Pass-Fail” basis. Pass = 10 points; Fail = less than 10 points.
