The selected motivation theories includes cognitive consistency. According to Schunk (2019), ” this theory assumes that motivation results from interactions of cognitions and behaviors.”, (p. 607). This theory has two prominent perspectives that includes balance and dissonance (Schunk, 2019). Many people tend to try to set goals to accomplish throughout their live time to make their life sufficient. Currently in my career field, many of the parents I work with are undergoing traumatic events resulting in their children being removed from their homes so in order to help resolve these problems professionals like myself have to try to educate and demonstrate the importance of achieving goals sets such as positive interactions with their children. Basically, these parents have to resolve their problems by making cognitions and behaviors consistent with each other to promote growth in becoming positive parent role models for their child(ren). When individual such as my clients use these theory they have to find the inconsistences to cognitively balance relations regardless of persons, situations or events even if they are negative or positive. By involving all three elements allows for individuals to cognitively determine why they went down this path and ways to help overcome this situation.
