It is crucial that you incorporate an ethic of academic integrity into your researching, writing, and leading.}

_{Academic style and integrity is defined by established guidelines for writing and publishing in a discipline. Adhering to these established guidelines ensures that current scholars use the work of earlier scholars responsibly. Using earlier scholars work is commonly referred to by Isaac Newton (1676) as standing on the shoulders of giants, and it is the way that knowledge advances in a discipline.}

_{A style such as that of the American Psychological Association (APA) or the Chicago Manual of Style (Chicago) provides rules that permit scholars to indicate the original source of information, words, and ideas. Thus, the critical connection between a style and academic integrity demands that we differentiate between the work of others and our own work. Learning to cite correctly according to the rules of ones particular discipline is fundamental to avoiding plagiarism (using others work without giving appropriate credit).}

In addition, you will have an opportunity to practice using APA style, which is the standard followed by Walden University. Academic and professional integrity in the field of Special Education have generated much attention in recent years as special educators are entrusted with sensitive information regarding students exceptionalities, issues of diversity, legal matters, and other ethical considerations.
