Assessment 3 is based on a case study. You are able to choose a child that you work with or one of the cases in the attached article by Alzrayer, Banda & Koul (2017). This article specifies one approach for all four children, which is the use of ani-pad with Proloquo2Go. There is often more than one option that will need to be trialled for children with complex communication needs. In this assessment, you need to plan a different Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) option for your chosen case. It may still be using the i-pad, but using a different app. It may be using a completely different AAC device. This assessment is linked to Modules 5 and 6 which address the topic of AAC. Case Study /Problem-Based Learning Description – Describe the communication ability of a child with whom you are working (pseudonyms must be used) OR one of the case studies provided on Blackboard – Analyse the child’s strengths and difficulties in terms of pre-intentional or intentional behaviours, prelinguistic or linguistic skills, presymbolic or symbolic understanding and receptive/expressive language skills. – Devise an AAC system that is appropriate for the child?s current communication level. Use your own resources or those from the free-downloads on the Assessment section of Blackboard. – Devise a script or visual schedule that could be used to increase communication with peers and/or participation in inclusive activities in an early childhood classroom. Include photos or pictures to illustrate your choices. – Describe strategies that could be implemented to extend the child’s child’s communication using these supports. Include parent coaching and peers. – Your responses should be based on the readings from the course and show evidence of wider research and reading from academic sources.
