You will work on developing the PowerPoint Final Exam.

SLIDE REQUIREMENTS:

Follow the design principles found here:

You may use images you find on the web, but they must all be cited on your last slide. You may of course also use your own images—in that case, you may cite yourself.

Read the rest of the requirements listed below.

This assignment requires more time than you think.   Design and content will determine your grade.  This final counts 15% of your final course grade.  You can move your course average up OR down depending on this presentation.

Final Exam Slideshow

For your final exam, you will prepare a PowerPoint slide show with exactly 13 slides.

For this final project, you will look back as well as forward within the context of writing in your chosen major or discipline.

Title:

Of course, you’ll need one title slide

Looking back:

The first 5 slides will document how your experience in this course (ENG 112) has shaped your growth as an academic writer and reader in your discipline or major. You will point to specific moments during this course that illustrate this growth. You will then “package” or explain your journey throughout slides 2-6. One way to do this is to use an analogy to illustrate your growth. For example, in the past, students have used the following analogies: a flower growing, an athlete training for a game, a cook preparing a meal, or a traveler going on a journey. You can use one of these or, better even, develop your own analogy. Any analogy that helps you illustrate growth will work.

Turning point:

1 slide is a transitional slide that separates the past from the future.

Looking forward:

You will use the next 5 slides (slides 8-12) to look forward. You absolutely will need to use and cite concepts from Chapters 6-9 in your textbook or EBook. Only use concepts from the chapter that your chosen discipline fits into. For example, if you plan to study Biology, use only concepts from Chapter 8.

In order to develop this next section of your slide show, consider including an example of each of the following from “your” chapter and link it to specific moments in this course:

  • A concept that you have already encountered before taking this course
  • A concept that you have not encountered before taking this course and that looks interesting/fun/cool
  • A concept that you have not encountered in this course and that makes you nervous
  • Something else related to writing or reading in your discipline that you can think of

A successful “looking forward” section will adhere to some kind of structure. This means it is not just a procession of slides but also presents a cohesive whole—just as the “looking back” section does through the analogy.

Works Cited/References

You must create a works cited or reference entry for all images or other original material you used.

Slide Design

  • Consider your audience.
  • I will be watching the slide show without you being present.
  • This presents a unique challenge because you have to convey your point clearly since you will not be there to answer any questions!
  • You cannot record sound on the slideshow since the file would be too large to upload.
