Objective: To help students understand the impact that art can have on boththem as a person, as well as the spaces and society around us.

Instructions:

You will need to visit an art museum or publicartwork for this project. In the age of COVID-19, this may look different thanwhat we normally expect. You have three main options:

1.     Visit amuseum in-person.

2.     Visit amuseum online. (Obsiously lets do this one)

3.     Visit apublic artwork or exhibition.

*In ALL of these cases, you will need to attacha photograph of you with the artwork you have chosen. (LET ME KNOW WHICH ARTWORK AND THE WEBSITE OF THE MUSEUM, SO I CAN TAKE A PICTURE) This can be a selfie atthe museum, with your computer, or with the public artwork. Basically, we justwant to see evidence you are actually the one who has seen the artwork and thatit took place within the timeframe of this class.

During your visit(however that looksmuseum, computer, public), choose at least one piece of artor a group of artworks by the same artist. You will want to choose a piece ofart that reflects on a social/cultural issue that you see present in the worldtoday (It can be one of the ones we have talked about or something elseentirely. It just needs to be relevant to the world we live in today. You getto make the case for how that is!). It also does not have to be a contemporarypiece of art, but it must be able to translate to contemporary concerns. Answerthe following questions, which you will then type up in essay format to submit.I suggest answering these questions while you are looking at the piece of art.

1.     What doyou think is important about this particular piece(s) of art?

2.     Do youlike it? Why or why not? How does the artwork affect you personally/ how doesit make you feel?

3.     How doesthe artwork reflect social/cultural concerns or ideas? How does it make you thinkdifferently about them or give you a new perspective that you didnt havebefore?

4.     If you sawthe artwork in person, how does the artwork affect or communicate in relationto the space it is in? (So why might it be important to see this artwork inperson rather than a picture?) If you saw it on a computer screen, reflect onhow your experience might have been affected by not being able to see it inperson (including benefits or downfalls).

5.     How didthe art visit affect the way you see the centrality of the arts in your life?In other words, did it change your perspective on the value of art for yourpersonal life?

***Include the titleand artist of the art piece in the final essay, along with which particular museumor place you visited.

To submit on Canvas, writea 750-word double-spaced reflection on your visit, which includes your answersto the above questions. You may include the picture at the end of the worddocument you attach.
