I was about twelve years old in the middle grade; one day, I lost my socks from school. Since teachers were very vigilant on the idea of uniforms, I could not step into the school compound without socks. My elder sister had acquired two pieces and would occasionally leave one behind. So, on this day, not knowing that my sister had washed her socks the previous night and had scheduled to use her spare pair, I decided to sneak into her closet and fetch the one she had reserved. It turned out so ugly that she had to use her wet pair she had just washed the very morning.
Alternative actions
Had it been today if I was in agreement with my conscious, I could have acted with mannerism, borrow her a pair on that very evening so that she doesn’t have to wash a pair knowing well that she had two alternative pair of socks. Confidently, she would have agreed and postponed cleaning the other used pair that very morning for the sake of her use. The action could have sounded ethically, since I could have acquired her socks with permission, and also, she could have delayed washing hence not using the wet pair that seemed embarrassing.
Importance of Good Ethics
In the society we live in today, how we behave and interact with individuals dictates much on our coexistence. As a result, communities have established a multivariate social standard that guides the morality and the shared code of conduct. Good ethical behavior, in particular, plays significant roles in the life of an individual. From the onset, ethical practices and decision making represents a real picture of our personalities within or away from people. Persistent immoral actions such as theft or lust gradually instill into one’s mind and, after that, defines the character. Just as LeVine (2018) reiterated, characters are developed from consistent behaviors tuned into a norm or lifestyle.
Good ethics are ideal since they guide our behaviors and create the best personalities. As Sia & Sia (2019) argue, society and family are fundamental pillars in shaping up its individuals. Since ethics are principle elements of the community, social or family inhabitants act as a depiction of the society itself. A society or organization laid on desirable ethics, such as integrity, significantly impacts the characters of its participants (Ruggiero, 2014). A company that has established the integrity level has slim chances of experiencing theft or dishonesty among its staff while handling their responsibilities.
Good ethics form the foundation of a coherent and united society. When a community is built upon high-end moral standards and adhered to, individual inhabitants adhere to the morals and desirable interactions on their daily routines (Laugier, 2016). As a result, it brews having a population happy and united due to limited provocations and underhand behaviors.
Important of Being Conscious with Actions
How we act should always be guided by the concept of morality, justice, and concern. While we act, we need to be extremely conscious not to violate or provoke our counterparts and surroundings. Our actions today create prejudice and might backfire when the prime time comes. An individual is known for stealing or murder in the society, and an example might fail to get a listening when a raid on suspicion puts him on the list. Our good conducts today are ideal in returning hands tomorrow, and our evil behaviors might payback harshly.
Equivalently, getting weary of our actions is ideal for achieving a peaceful environment for all. Actions perpetrated subconsciously or out of diligent observation might trigger retaliation or havoc in the society (Ruggiero, 2014) therefore interfering with the wellbeing of a coherent and united society.
