This assignment requires the student to craft a resume that summarizes his/her biggest screw ups – personal, professional, and academic. This is a daunting exercise because we are used to showcasing our successes and covering up our booboos. The goal here is to see your failures as data upon which to build, much like a scientist uses his/her experiments that don’t exactly produce the desired results. The scientist tweaks a few things and tries again. Entrepreneurs are to do the same thing. Failures build experience and will happen when you take risks.
1) List at least 10 Failures with the date as you would list an accomplishment in a typical resume.
2) After listing the item, come to terms with each failure and use it for a learning experience. For every failure, describe what you can learn from the experience. In order to learn from it, do not blame someone else. We cannot change others, only ourselves. Your goal is to make necessary changes so the ‘failure’ it won’t be repeated. For example, you may have failed a class and lost your scholarship. Instead of blaming the professor, try to analyze why you failed the class and what you can do differently next time. If you want to be successful, you will need to know how to navigate failure, and make the necessary changes to get the desired results.
