Explain the functions of social stratification from the view of Davis and Moore.
From this view of Davis and Moore, how do we decide which occupations are functionally most important and how society arrives at an appropriate reward for each.
Consider some specific U.S. occupations: President of the United States of America, CEO, professional basketball player, electrician, medical doctor, teacher, stay-at-home mother. What are the contributions of these occupations to society? Discuss whether each of these positions is justly rewarded for their contributions.
What criticisms (briefly explain at least two) do you have of Davis and Moore’s perspective?
