The goal of this assignment is to get you to understand the many ways that you can impact politics. After all, the government should serve the people, but we must participate so our voices are heard. This assignment has three parts:
Part 1: Read New York Times article “How to Participate in Politics” https://www.nytimes.com/guides/year-of-living-better/how-to-participate-in-government
Part 2: In a one-page (single spaced) response paper address the following questions:
What are your values? Do you see them reflected in government today? What do you want government to do? And what have you done to have a say in what happens?
Part 3: Identify your representative and send them a message about an issue that you care about. You can find a comprehensive list of your local, state and federal representatives here: https://www.commoncause.org/find-your-representative/change-your-address
You can write an email, create a video, and/or a Facebook post. Be sure to focus your message and use the tips from the article. Be sure to provide proof of this activity with your assignment. You can take a picture of a post and scan it along with your paper portion. You may also share a video.
