The CEO of PMP Consultants Pty Ltd (PMP) has been in dialogue with members of the newly formed Pacific Resorts Group (PRG) regarding their intended initiative to modernise information systems facilities across their Barrier Reef resorts. As a result of these talks (and reputation for competence PMP Consultants holds in the project management arena) PMP has been contracted to provide a preliminary planning document in the form of a briefing paper to the PRG Board. If done properly, this report will form the basis for internal high-level discussions plus input to a Request-For-Tender (RFT) to be issued by PRG to Information Systems service providers in early December 2014. A well-received report would have three direct (and major) benefits for PMP itself: 1. It would almost certainly guarantee an invitation for PMP to tender for planning/managing the actual implementation of the upgrade and integration project. Winning this would, in turn, make the company eligible for undertaking a range of associated – but at this point still confidential – PRG affiliated projects. This series of significant activities could become a lucrative and high profile income stream for PMP over the next 5 years. It would also allow the company to acquire an incumbent’s advantage over potential rivals who are still mostly unaware of the scale of PRG’s (and the PRG parent company’s) planned development. 2. It could allow PMP to expand its enterprise into the state of Queensland – something the PMP CEO has been hoping to do for the last two years ever since the Queensland government announced new tax incentives towards high-tech businesses operating within their geography. 3. An exceptional submission has potential to see the PMP CEO offered a non-executive Directorship on Pacific Resorts Group Board of Directors. With a similar existing position on the Board of a well-known NSW sports club, he regards this potential new appointment as an excellent opportunity for further personal networking with high-status peers in the Resorts sector. Needless to say, professionalism and thoroughness of the project management briefing report is an important issue not only for the future of PMP but for the CEO personally.
