Historical Perspectives Lopes Talk Event

As a reading/literacy specialist, it is important to know the history of literacy instruction in order to better understand perspectives over time and how they inform instructional practices. Review the resources in this week’s topic Resources to guide you on how to structure your video.

For this assignment, develop a 2-3 minute Lopes Talk video similar to a Ted Talk, in which you will describe historical perspectives of the role of the reading specialist. This would be presented at an open house event for families and other members of the community. Create a visual or graphic organizer addressing the talking points below. Using the information on your graphic, record a 2-3 minute Ted Talk style video. 

Your video should include:

• Brief discussion of the history of literacy instruction.
• Description of the role of the reading/literacy specialist and how it has changed over time.
• Summary of the components of language and how they are integrated into literacy instruction.
• Discussion of your vision of literacy instruction in your school or district.

When creating your video presentation, consider the following:

• Design visual elements to emphasize major points
• Prepare a presentation outline and a brief script
• Practice and rehearse
• Record your presentation
• Add effects and edit as necessary

Submit your graphic with a link to your video.

Support your content with 3-5 scholarly resources.

Remember, video and audio quality are important and should be taken into consideration. Be sure your video is filmed with sufficient lighting, and the volume is adequate for viewers to hear. Intonation, expression, proper speech, and professional attire are expected.
