COLD WAR ANALYSIS

Watch all the domentaries and answer the prompt: (Do not use any personal resource if possible, ONLY use the documentaries for the analysis)

Why We Fight was a series of seven documentary films produced between 1942 and 1945 and directed by Frank Capra. They were initially shown to US soldiers to explain their nations involvement in the war, and were later shown to the American public before feature films for a similar purpose.

For this essay, watch and explore the historical significance of one segment of Why We Fight. How does the film seek to justify US involvement in World War II? What are the broader rationales or ideals it suggests? Is the war portrayed as defensive or as libratory (or a combination of the two)? How is the war presented to viewers (visually, rhetorically, etc)? How might soldiers and non-combatants viewed it differently? In what ways, if at all, does it attempt to counter arguments that the US should not be involved in the war?

Finally, to what extent do you think the ideas presented in the film formed a part of the ideology of World War II as the Good War? Why or why not?
